I am on the home stretch of attaining my PhD in Integrative Medicine, with just my dissertation left. The introductory sentence from my dissertation: “The impact of cancer has left its footprint in all our lives. Whether one is newly diagnosed with cancer, a cancer survivor, or has family members or friends with cancer, the many fears associated with a cancer diagnosis, including fear of recurrence, can cause a huge emotional toll.”
Thankfully, we are hearing more and more cancer survivor success stories. Yet even when an ‘all clear’ or ‘in remission’ message is given, there still may be fears of cancer recurrence that pop up, which can cause anxiety and unrest. This issue of fear of recurrence has steered me in the direction of researching this issue for my PhD dissertation, which I have entitled: Addressing Cancer Survivors’ Fear of Recurrence with Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
The initial phase of this study requires gathering study participants (Cancer Survivors) who will be asked to fill out a brief questionnaire. 25 of these questionnaires will be randomly selected, and these participants will be asked if they would be willing to take part in a specially designed program of 4 NLP sessions focused on minimizing fear of cancer recurrence. There is no charge for these individual sessions. Upon completion of the 4 sessions, participants will be asked to complete a questionnaire similar to the initial one.
What is NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)? NLP is a model of interpersonal communication that helps transform the way in which people think and act. It provides education in self-awareness and effective communication to change thought patterns and emotions in positive ways. It provides a method of taking charge of our thoughts, which can have a positive impact on our health, both short-term and long-term.
My website home page (www.healthunlimited.biz) has links to the questionnaires and consent form. Just click on the appropriate forms under the ‘Cancer Survivor Study Forms to Print.’ You can also CALL or EMAIL and ask me to forward the forms to someone you know who may be interested: Cell #: 928-830-1235 firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you very much for your help—I sincerely appreciate it. 🙂
