EAT BETTER—It doesn’t have to be about eating less…and it doesn’t have to be about eating weird foods (rutabagas, anyone?)
Eating BETTER is a choice that each of us have every day…AND every time we eat. I will be sharing ‘food-bytes’ with you on a regular basis to hopefully serve as quick reminders that we can all make choices to ‘Eat BETTER’ and as a result, positively impact our health, no matter what our level of health may be.
FOOD BYTE: Use Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar (or any of the great flavored vinegars) INSTEAD of bottled salad dressings (whether ‘Ranch’ or a bottled vinaigrette). By doing this, you will be cutting down on the Omega 6 fats that are so prevalent in bottled dressings (even ‘healthy looking’ ones for the most part!). Decreasing Omega 6 fats helps decrease the inflammation in our bodies—which is a very good thing, since many of health problems and diseases are linked to the level of inflammation in our bodies.
A Quick Healthy ‘Homemade’ Vinaigrette:
½ cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO)—1/2 cup Balsamic Vinegar—a pinch of salt & pepper—1 tsp ground mustard—1 clove garlic, crushed (optional) Whisk all ingredients except EVOO, then slowly whisk EVOO into the other ingredients. Keeps in fridge for 3-4 days.
