I decided not to post this yesterday (Valentine’s Day) since I’m guessing that most of you would not be interested in reading about food journal apps on a day filled with chocolate and sweets! But today is a new day, so it’s time.
‘Apps’ (applications—most often FREE) are small specialized programs that can be added to smart phones/devices. They have many functions, including making various aspects of our lives easier. Food Journal Apps can do just that by helping you track calories eaten per meal/per day, track your weight, exercise, water intake, and overall progress toward your goals. Many include a ‘bar code’ function that allows you to scan a packaged item for nutritional information. Some include healthier versions of recipes.
Think about it…those who track their daily food intake have been found to lose more weight (up to twice as much!) compared to those who don’t monitor food intake. Tracking food intake has become much easier with the apps now available. I’ve listed some of the most popular ones below. Just type the names below into the Search box in your App Store on your phone and check them out—these are all free versions. See which one appeals to you with what they offer and get started!

Although these apps have huge databases of foods, there will be times that you may need to estimate, so make your best guess. Please leave a comment if you have a favorite that’s not on the list. Thanks for reading…I wish you optimal health!
